First meeting April 19, 1989 @ Bud & Betty O'Brien's
Meeting called to order at 7:05-Deb K.
Sign up sheets went around 4:00:
Boat crew volunteers
Meeting place volunteers
Attendance
Secretary read the minutes from the last meeting in September of 88.-Carolyn R.
Treasure read the treasures report.-Bob H.
New Business:
Frank and Steve will bring boats to their places. One will go to Jerry's place to have the pontoons welded and crankshaft greased and oiled.
Motion to bill the association for the supplies, Sherm seconded motion.
Info: Lance Scott's wedding.
Lance had checked into insurance and that is the prohibiting factor now. We'd need unanimous vote of all the lake members to even be able to get insured and then the cost was very high. Any complaints about the way we've always done things to now? No. So we'll give up on the idea for now.
It was late May that we had our lake treated last year. Sign up sheet went around for anyone interested in getting their shorelines treated. Bob motioned we contact someone up about weed treatment before the next meeting, Lance seconded.
Deb K. Has paid $200 for the permit already. It will be here by May 1st.
Dave will still do the water clarity readings.
Steve gave us a hand out on European Eurasian Milfoil and showed us a sign that he will try to get posted by the public access.
Public landing:
Should we have a Garbage can by access? No
Dorothy suggested a no loitering sign at the public Access. Sharon pointed out people might dump house garbage. Sandy said people will picnic there. Bob suggested we buy back the access land. Unanimous vote no garbage can.
Unanimous feeling the axis needs help it's unaccessible now.
Many are feeling we don't need to encourage too many visitors by making it too nice.
Bob suggested a removable ramp for our use and then can be removed. Brad seconded the motion.
(Shawna said they might put in a ramp on their property.)
Jeanette Wenzel told us of their permit that they applied for and received to dredge out a 3-ft by 75 ft path to get their boat through. A concern was discussed that it might break a leak in the bottom of the lake and cause the lake to go down more or dry up. (It happened to Crystal Lake by the Terrace.)
Joyce Geris wish to tell us about contacting the Rockford fire department to have a controlled burn to remove the dry weeds from their property across the channel. It's a safety measure for fishermen and children. Lenny B. pointed out a need to check the channel sides for piles of Peat before the burn.
Bob passed out his sheet on the asphalt plant that is going in on 19 and 120.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00.
Guest Speaker Paul Dietrich from Montrose DNR:
Spoke of the history of Lake Martha.
Bullhead count normal is 3/netting, ours was 400 or more in a netting.
The DNR will stock our lake this year with walleye (we had only a partial winter kill this winter).
Dave suggested bass instead because they are bullheads natural enemy. Paul said he would look into it maybe stock both.
Aeration would help prevent winter kill. The system we'd like the best is not available from the manufacturer for a year.
It would pull water up from the middle of the lake and cascaded down and back into the hole that will be left open all winter. That would need to be posted for safety. Power to run down to the unit and electric to run it suggested only need one month of winter would be paid for by the association 3 or $400 per month $1,000 to run the power down to the unit. No vote was taken we will discuss this more we'll get information for a system.
Sandy suggested we get our fish tested for mercury.
Sandy and Ray interested in “angling” for the DNR.
Sherm ask Paul about the fish trap by his place. Paul will look into the permit and “chew” on them a bit on how they don’t clean it.
The meeting broke up after the speaker spoke at 9:12
